All National Mah Jongg League rules apply.
Every Standard Scramble match has four games, with each player East once.
All matches use the same rules. Social has a more relaxed pace expectation. Focused requires a faster pace.
The current match proposer provides the Mahjong tiles, mat, racks and dice. If the proposer leaves an open match, proposer responsibility transfers to the next player who joined.
All four players must place their tiles on the mat before anyone picks up incoming tiles.
No phone above table height. No photos of tiles, racks, hands or the table. No AI or electronic assistance.
All phone notification sounds must be turned off during play, as a courtesy to other players and to encourage everyone to stay present and focused on the game.
Winner receives the NMJL hand value shown on the card.
Self-picked Mahjong = hand value ×2.
Jokerless Mahjong = hand value ×2 when eligible.
Self-picked + Jokerless = hand value ×4.
50- and 75-point hands are not eligible for the Jokerless multiplier.
Wall Game = +10 to each player and no other points for that game.
Average score is shown only after a player has completed at least 4 matches.
In Standard Scrambles, the proposer at the time the match is completed receives +5 points.
Leaving less than 24 hours before the match: −20 if no replacement joins and the match is cancelled.
20 minutes or more late AND the delay results in the match being cancelled: late player −20 points; other three players +25 points each.
If an emergency occurs after play begins, every unfinished game becomes a Wall Game, +10 to each player.
School Scramble matches consist of two games. East is determined by dice before each game, with the highest roll becoming East. School Scrambles do not award the +5 proposer bonus. All other Dragon Scramble rules apply.
